On August 2, 1971, the Apollo 15 space mission made history, and with it the Bulova LUNAR PILOT Chronograph. A timepiece customized by Bulova to withstand the conditions of lunar space, it fulfilled its purpose by providing the mission crew with accurate timekeeping, ensuring that no one was left without oxygen, water, or the battery power in the portable life support system’s backpack. The watch was also used as a backup for onboard timers during the critical phase of re-entry into Earth’s atmosphere.
